Funeral or Memorial Service Guidelines of The Book of Common Prayer

Christ Church is committed to being a pastoral presence to those who experience the loss of a loved one.  When death occurs, please notify the Parish Administrator and our clergy before scheduling funeral or memorial liturgies.  The normative liturgy of all funerals or memorials is about celebrating the Holy Eucharist.  The funeral or memorial service follows the guidelines of The Book of Common Prayer. Family members and friends are invited to participate in the service by reading lessons and the prayers. One or two remembrances by family members or friends may be given.   A homily or sermon, which emphasizes the comfort of our faith, may also be preached. It should be remembered that the funeral service is a public statement of the Christian faith and hope in the Resurrection.

Flower Arrangements

Floral arrangements for a funeral or memorial service may be provided by the family or can be provided by the church for a fee.  The coffin is sealed before it is brought into the church. During the funeral, the coffin is covered with the pall. Floral arrangements may be sent to the church for the family.

Reception Following A Service

Many families wish to have a reception after the funeral to greet friends. Our church is happy to provide space for this in the Parish House.  Information about this will be discussed at the planning meeting with the Priest and Parish Administrator.

Email us today and someone from our staff will get back to you.  Thank you!
