This past Saturday night April 27th our Church had our Capital Campaign Kickoff. It was a beautiful, joyful evening! I am grateful for the work of the Capital Campaign committee whose members have been thinking and planning tirelessly for over a year. While planning when to roll out our campaign, we thought the Easter season would be a great time to have a Capital Campaign Drive because it is a season of joy, generosity, and miracles.
Our campaign is an ambitious undertaking! We hope to raise 1.5 million dollars. We will use the raised funds to replace our roof, add air-conditioning to our sanctuary, enhance our ministerial efforts, plus several smaller but important projects.
Moreover, I am happy to say, under the able leadership of Fred Allardyce we have raised over $900,000 already!
Our efforts are a great start, but we still need a lot of help. It will take the full participation of our entire parish to help our church reach this goal! No gift is too small or unimportant, and of course, no donation is too large. Most importantly, all gifts will be used for the glory of God as we partner with Him!
There is a beautiful story of a nervous priest amid a capital campaign who had a conversation with a faithful parishioner. This parishioner said to this worrying priest, “Father, you know of all the miracles of the Bible, I am most taken by two in particular. The first is that God came in the world for us! He died for us and rose for us – the Easter miracle! The second miracle is that God has faith in me to be a partner in ministry with him! Somehow, I can choose to help God create a better world! For this, I am grateful!”
As your priest, I am grateful for your love for Christ Church. I suspect that you love Christ Church because it has helped you understand God’s love for you. You may come to this understanding through our church in many ways. Perhaps you have learned of this love through our choir led music program or the preaching of the word by great pastors and priests associated with our sacred church home. Maybe it was within a small group experience in our various church committees that you learned that people know you, and love to be on the journey to the kingdom of God with you!
Alternatively, perhaps you know of our long history of faith, witness, and welcome, and our commitment to the broader community. Deep down we do love the fact that our church has always striven to be a partner with God to create a Joyful, hopeful world.
On Saturday night I asked all those present to partner with God through Christ Church and our Capital Campaign efforts. I ask all of you, as well, to partner with God through Christ Church, through our efforts we will create a future for Christ Church for generations to come.
Below is the prayer that I prayed at the beginning of our successful Kick-off event. A modified version of this prayer will be included in our Prayers of the People until after our Celebration Sunday on June 9th. I have faith that God will answer our prayers for a successful campaign. I also hope we will have a 100% parish participation in this campaign because this an entire community effort!
God bless you and please watch out for the Capital Campaign announcements and please join our work!
A Prayer for Our Capital Campaign
Gracious God, we give thanks for inspiring our forebearers of faith 125 years ago and the generations of parishioners after them as they built a welcoming House of Prayer, in the Southwest corner of Rhode Island.
We are grateful for their vision, dedication and sacrifice.
In our time, help us to build on their legacy as we seek to restore and improve our church building and enhance our ministerial efforts.
Help us to be sacrificial and generous, so that Christ Church will be a faithful witness in the present and future.
Bless our Capital Campaign with a deepening devotion to prayer, a growing commitment for service, and increasing levels of generosity as we work to advance the life and ministry of our parish. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen
